Position Summary
The Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Neurology, has an opening for a Bioinformatics Research Analyst to join the NeuroGenomics and Informatics Center (NGI). The successful candidate will be involved in projects that handle big-data research, bundling genetics, multi-omics, biomarker, clinical, and histopathological data, to better understand Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Overall, this research will contribute importantly to the discovery of novel risk genes, steer basic research and drug development, and advance personalized medicine. The successful candidate will also help with ongoing research in the lab, providing support on matters such as grant reporting, working with collaborators, data applications and storage, lab orders, establishing documentation and protocols, etc. Assists with research study, experiments, preparation of material, and documentation
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Implements: Algorithms and computer software for analyzing omics-based data sets [high-throughput, massively parallel genomic/proteomic/clinical]; Data management and analysis solutions that aid in the storage, investigation and dissemination of large data sets.
- Coordinates research project with other investigators and institutions.
- Participates in developing hypotheses and experimental design.
- Assists with reporting of methods, data and results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledgeable within one or more of the following subjects: Genetics, Functional Genomics, Neuroimaging, Bioinformatics, and Big Data (knowledge on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias is not crucial).
- Experience with data/statistical analyses in one or more of the following programming environments: R, Python, bash, MATLAB, JAVA, etc.
- Experience using computing clusters (batch processing), cloud computing services, and containerization.
- Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research and record findings, with a focus on pursuit of advanced education in field.
- Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of computational biology.
- Ability to analyze and interpret large complex data sets, such as genome sequencing, microarray gene expression studies, human genetic studies and model organism studies and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
- Expertise in standard bioinformatics tools.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus two years of experience; OR master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field; OR combined education and experience of seven years.

Salary Range
$40,900.00 - $74,200.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
